More removal of stuff from the Niles House …
Tony and his dad removed :
So many screws and nails were used to attach these to the walls that we ended up with at least 5 handfuls!
Stuff moved from the second floor :
More items for the dumpster :
After 2 weeks, we were able to remove almost all of the unwanted items in the second kitchen on the first floor with Tony’s dad’s help.
Before :
We’re re-using the refrigerator as a cooler in the back kitchen area after several hours of cleaning out the smoke residue.

And the same space after removing the appliances, cabinets and most of the linoleum tiles :

Part of the work we did this past week also included removing the old flooring to see what was hiding under the old carpet and linoleum tile flooring in the second first floor apartment. We discovered the original wood subfloor boards under several layers of bad flooring materials ..

Original floor with bad carpet and super-thick black padding
After we threw out the bad carpet and thick black pad, we discovered the tacky linoleum floor peeking out from underneath the black padding …
And the original subfloor revealed!

It looks like there was some water damage to this room in the past, as a large section of the subfloor boards toward the interior wall are concave/warped, so we’ll probably be tearing this out and replacing it with a plywood subfloor. This will actually allow us to match the finished floor level in this room to the great room areas.
